Service and Leadership Dinner 18 November 2022
Friday, 18th November saw the launch of our Service and Leadership dinner series. We are very proud to be one of the few schools in the country that recognises our pupils’ contributions beyond the classroom with the awarding of Service and Leadership scholarships, and this was an opportunity for our current group of Year 9 scholars to host an evening.
Joe, Thane and Alex welcomed guests and served drinks before dinner began and then introduced each speaker. Our first speaker, Nick Higham, spoke about service and his role supporting charities in Ukraine and delivering aid to some of the most needy. We were inspired by the name of his group of charities “kidogo kidogo” which means little by little, and Nick asked us all to consider what small actions we could take because all those small actions can lead to large changes in the world.
Following a delicious dinner prepared for guests by our in-house catering team, we listened to Peter King, CBE talk about leadership and his role as CEO of British Cycling during the peak of its success. He told us that great leaders employ great teams and everyone in that team needs to do their part part to the best of their ability and urged us to think about how we could achieve this in our own lives at school or at work. He also inspired us with his absolute belief in success – the team at British Cycling set out to be the best in the world and at the next Olympics won more medals that they had done in the previous 100 years!
It was a fantastic event and much credit must go to our group of scholars for their help in organising and hosting. We can’t wait for the next one!
