Picture perfection in the GB community

Photography is a popular pastime here at Great Ballard and we have enjoyed an unprecedented year of success. Our own competition attracted over 150 entries from our whole community of pupils, parents and staff, with the final shortlist judged by local photographer Peter Flude.

In even more exciting news, some of the school’s keenest photographers enjoyed amazing success in a local competition run by the Rotary Club. Michael (Year 6) was the winner in the junior section with his atmospheric photograph of the ruined Brighton pier, while Zoe (Year 7) came third in the intermediate section with her abstract portrayal of a lighthouse. Elliott (Year 6), whose delightful image of a pug was the overall winner in the school competition, was also commended bythe judges.

Headmaster, Matt King, commented: “The growing interest in photography is really exciting, not least because it means we have some amazing images for our walls! Art has always been a strength at Great Ballard and we are about to move into a new building and to appoint a new Head of Department to take us forwards to GCSE.” As the images show, the new incumbent will have plenty of talent and enthusiasm to work with!
