GB students take part in LAMDA showcase

At Great Ballard, we strive to offer a variety of extra-curricular opportunities for our pupils, from Music lessons and community engagement to UK Maths Challenges and LAMDA lessons. Perhaps one of the most popular at present, LAMDA (London Academy of Music & Dramatic Arts) provides a range of benefits for novices and well-experienced students alike; all lessons are rooted in encouraging students to develop a love of literature, poetry and Drama and improve standards of communication through the spoken word, and each session aims to strengthen creative and analytical skills as well as empathy and acceptance through the exploration of a diverse range of characters and themes.

In preparation for the upcoming Worthing Speech & Drama Festival, Katherine Mustafa, Head of Drama and LAMDA Instructor, hosted a special LAMDA showcase for pupils and their families. With 19 students currently attending lessons, it was the perfect opportunity for them to get up on stage and practise various monologues, duologues, prose readings and verse speaking, with comedic classics like Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to more serious drama scenes such as After Juliet but Sharman Macdonald. Guests were also given a sneak peek viewing of one of Great Ballard’s entries for the ESU Shakespeare competition:Juliet & the Nurse, Act 2 Scene 5, from Romeo & Juliet.
