Galactic Challenge!

This Tuesday, some of our Go Beyond scientists in Years 7 and 8 visited Churcher's College to participate in the Galactic Challenge by the Space Science Engineering Foundation.

They worked with students from Lord Wandsworth College to design a Luxury Leisure Moon Base - Artemis VII. Throughout the day, they were led by a President from Lord Wandsworth and Vice Presidents Henry and Elliott, to complete multiple engineering aspects and work towards a Request for Proposal. Specifically, subgroups were formed around the aspects of structural ,operations, human, automation, and robotics engineering.

Ideas were presented by all students showing consideration of building and structural materials, food and water accessibility, waste disposal, and design for luxury and comfort.

In the end, Ballard's team were awarded the subcontract for Operations in a Joint Venture, and they were commended for their creativity, teamwork, focus throughout the day, financial considerations, and structural designs.

All in all, a fantastic way to celebrate some of our Go Beyond students, as well as Space Week, and get an insight into real world engineering proposals and team work.
