Subjects

Art and Crafts

Children's art and pottery are displayed throughout the school. Art and Technology are timetabled subjects but many of the children enjoy using the facilities in their free time or excellence time and in recent years a great number of Scholarships and Exhibitions have been won to major Independent Senior Schools. The annual competition brings a quality exhibition from children of all ages.

Drama

Drama is also part of the curriculum and as well as enjoying themselves the children gain greatly in confidence. All children perform on stage in Form Plays each year and many will choose to be involved in further productions. There are visits from professional workshops and many children follow L.A.M.D.A courses.

Music

Music is another popular area and tuition is offered in a wide range of instruments. There are several choirs, an orchestra and various other instrumental groups, with regular concerts both in and out of school. Many children take Associated Board exams and perform in local festivals if they wish to.

Dance

Dance is an important part of the P.E. programme for Boys and Girls. Many children also have classes in modern, tap, jazz ballet or street dance and often compete in the local festivals.

Excellence

There are excellence classes in all areas of the Arts, enabling talented children to progress at a quicker rate, perhaps towards Scholarship success.

Sport

All children are introduced to a broad programme of sports so that they all acquire basic skills and find areas of sporting life that they enjoy. Every effort is made to ensure that all children will at some stage be involved in inter school matches and will learn to cope with success and failure, while learning the team ethic.

Enjoyment is the key, but a competitive spirit and fitness for life are also important components.

Team sports include football, rugby and hockey for boys and netball, hockey and rounders for girls. All participate in swimming/athletics and cross-country. There is also a wider range of activities/individual sports including tennis, golf, dance, croquet, judo, trampolining and mountain biking.

All Main School children are timetabled for a double lesson of sport on Monday and Tuesday. There are inter school matches on Wednesday, a wide range of sporting/non sporting activities on a Friday, and also a single P.E. period in the week.
