International Education

Nestled in the stunning countryside of the South Downs National Park, close to the Sussex coastline and surrounded by places of historic interest, Great Ballard School is the perfect location for both overseas foreign national or British children living abroad to experience a traditional English Prep School.
Those students wishing to move on to a British Public School in Year 9 will study for their Common Entrance examination which they will sit in Year 8. Advice can be given on the best senior school for the individual pupil and arrangements can be made to visit the schools.
Offering a truly unique learning experience for all, Great Ballard School has welcomed students from all over the world since it first opened its door in 1924.
Opportunities for overseas students
Every year Great Ballard School offers an exciting opportunity to enjoy a Prep School education to International Students, girls and boys, between the ages of 10 and 13. Students can join our school at any time during the academic year for either an agreed number of weeks, a term or on an annual basis. As well as welcoming individual students, our school has welcomed groups of overseas students to come and study during term time.
A Unique Learning Experience For All
Studying at Great Ballard enhances children’s learning and makes an ideal preparation for secondary school either in the UK or in their home country.
The school has a superb record of success – academic, as well as in the arts and sports – with many students gaining scholarships to leading senior schools. In the last 20 years, all of our students who have sat their Common Entrance examination in Year 8 have secured places at their chosen secondary school.

Our approach to education is to mix traditional teaching with modern technology, and have teachers who specialise in their subjects. We make use of every tool at our disposal to enhance the children’s learning – from our historic home, Eartham House, and its stunning grounds where children can really be children, to our excellent facilities, including our high-spec science lab and IT suite, to our dedicated music room and first-rate sports pitches.
Home-From-Home

From the time that our boarding children wake up at school in the morning or the day pupils arrive, their care and well-being are utmost importance. Staff are available at all times to help children and to look after them – this includes all of our staff, not just the matrons and teachers!
We are proud of the family atmosphere that we have created at the school and all parents can be assured of a home-from-home experience for their children when they come to Great Ballard.
Our Facilities
All our boarding rooms are in Eartham House and the boarding community enjoys a range of organised activities in a family environment.
Students are able to participate in a wide range of sports and activities both in the grounds of the school and at nearby local facilities. Our grounds boast an Astroturf hockey pitch, tennis courts, a covered heated pool and sports grounds with views across to Chichester harbour and the Isle of Wight.
