Location setting
Being situated in the heart of the Sussex countryside, yet only minutes away from Chichester, Arundel and the south coast, means that all of our children, both day and boarding, are able to experience the benefits of being at school in the countryside yet close to nearby towns and facilities which are visited to enhance learning experiences. Being a child at school at Great Ballard gives children the chance to enjoy being children, running around at break times and getting muddy or their hands dirty by being outside! The school grounds are all enclosed with no public access or thoroughfare with separate enclosed areas such as the walled garden for the swimming pool and an exclusive walled garden for Nursery/Pre-Prep children.
Our children benefit everyday from the unique location of Great Ballard School. From arriving in the morning and seeing countryside, birds, flowers and nature all around them, they use the grounds at all ages from the youngest nursery children to the final year pupils for sports, activities and learning opportunities.
Since Great Ballard Sc
hool was first founded in 1924, children have always been encouraged to make the most of learning outside as well as in the classrooms and are often seen out and about in our 30 acres with their teachers. The subjects being explored could range from Maths, Art, Music, History and Science to mention just a few! Wildlife projects are always interesting and there are opportunities for the children to take part in monitoring bird boxes and the wild garden area, pond dipping, planting trees and growing flowers and vegetables. Great excitement can always be guaranteed when newts are spotted and photo opportunities abound for budding photographers.
