International Education

Bienvenida, Bienvenu, Willkommen, Benvenuto, Powitanie, Vitejte, Welkom!

Offering a truly unique learning experience for all, Great Ballard School has welcomed students from all over the world since it first opened its doors in 1924. We provide a great opportunity for young international students to study in a small, rural, family prep school.

Located in the stunning South Downs National Park on the south coast of England, students can study for a short time or stay longer to prepare for life at a senior British Boarding school or improve their English in our caring homely environment.

The school is conveniently located within 30 acres of stunning grounds close to many local historic attractions. We are surrounded by wildlife and have regular visits from wild deer which are often visible from dormitory windows in the mornings.

Our rural setting provides a clean and safe working environment that offers a quintessential British learning experience, delivered by quality staff using our superb facilities.

We have a personalised learning approach and plenty of space for our pupils to explore and enjoy our beautiful surroundings. With our Forest School and enviable sports facilities, we ensure all our pupils enjoy plenty of practical learning and outside activities.

International pupils are given mentors to help them settle in and receive dedicated support from our strong network of expert teachers. Children make friends quickly and enjoy exciting day-time and after school activities.

Pupils are welcome to study at Great Ballard for short or long term periods either for a term or for several years. We also welcome International groups of pupils and their teachers for short stays.

There is a tailored programme of English as an Additional Language (EAL) lessons according to individual ability which supports applications to UK Senior Schools.

International Education at Great Ballard

Those students wishing to move on to a British Public School in Year 9 will study for their Common Entrance examination which they will sit in Form 8 (age 12-13). Advice can be given on the best senior school for the individual pupil and arrangements can be made to visit schools.

Great Ballard has strong connections with reputable senior schools in the local area and a proven track record of successfully placing students at their preferred senior schools after their time at Great Ballard. We are an accredited member of the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools (IAPS) and the Boarding Schools Association (BSA).
