Visit to Claremont Lodge Nursing Home
Some of our Early Years pupils (Nursery and Reception) were fortunate enough to be invited to visit Claremont Lodge Nursing Home in Fontwell last Friday for an afternoon of crafts and conversation. The children love an opportunity to travel in the minibus with Mark and even though the journey was only 5 minutes long, they were all very excited.
The children received a very warm welcome from the staff and residents at Claremont, who had assembled some lovely craft activities for the children to enjoy. Included, was an array of colourful stickers, which the children kindly shared with the residents. This certainly helped to break the ice and a delightful afternoon followed with happy smiling faces all around. It was wonderful to see our children bringing a little bit of magic to Claremont Lodge that afternoon and to observe the residents’ faces light up when handed a sticker or a story book to read by one of the children. Following the card making, puzzles and stories, the children were treated to a vintage afternoon tea, laid on by the kind staff at Claremont. “I’m very partial to lemon drizzle” said five year old Eryn! To end our afternoon together, the children sang to the residents. It was clear that they enjoyed the young choir’s performance and were amazed when Cyrus entertained everyone with a solo song he had composed about the Blue Planet.
We all agreed it had been a really special afternoon and it was lovely to overhear some kind comments from the residents. “A very successful afternoon, enjoyed by all,” was one lovely thought. “It was a lovely afternoon; thank you for coming” was another lady’s reflection and our favourite comment was an observation on how well-behaved the children were.
On the 8th December it will be Great Ballard’s turn to play host to the Claremont Residents, who are very excited about coming to watch our Pre-Prep Nativity Dress Rehearsal, followed by tea and David’s famous mince pies. We look forward to welcoming them.
